My Approach

I provide play therapy and art interventions to children aged 2-13 and their families. Play Therapy offers children and teens a safe and supportive environment to explore, understand, and cope with difficult emotions and transitions. I collaborate with families to provide healthy coping skills, helpful insight, and solutions for growth and change in difficult times. I welcome collaboration with other professionals in your family’s life including occupational therapists, physicians, and teachers in order to provide each child the best treatment possible. I am happy to offer school observations as needed and in-home therapy, if appropriate, for your child and family.

My Services

I am happy to offer a warm, comfortable, and inviting environment for children to safely identify, explore, and cope with difficult emotions and situations. The Play Room and Sandtray room are filled with carefully selected therapeutic toys to promote an atmosphere of safety, creativity, and trust. Along with this environment, I greet each child and family with warmth, caring, and helpful knowledge and recommendations so that you will be best equipped to conquer your current and future challenges together.

Modalities

I draw from multiple modalities, including:

Child-Centered Play Therapy

Child-Centered Play Therapy uses play and the therapeutic relationship between Kristen and your child to provide a safe, dependable therapeutic environment.

Filial Therapy

Filial Therapy is a special kind of play therapy where Kristen teaches and guides you through play techniques to use with your children.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy is a type of therapy that involves multiple members of the family in order to nurture change and development within the family as a whole.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention is a model used to help teach children constructive ways of dealing with a crisis or emergency.

Companioning and Grief Therapy

Companioning is a type of grief therapy that focuses on accompanying you through a death loss or coping with a loved one’s terminal illness.

Art Interventions

While Kristen is not an art therapist, she has studied and been supervised by art therapists.

Sandtray Therapy

Sandtray Therapy is a mostly nonverbal form of therapy that focuses on you or your child expressing yourself through symbol and metaphor using miniature objects and the familiar medium of sand.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidenced-based treatment for children, teens, and their caregivers who have experienced trauma.
